The Roma Series
A "wicked smart" forensic accountant. A covert government agency. A complicated romance. A gang of friends that helps solve puzzles and uncover truths. Rome, Boston, Milan, Naples. And lots of great food along the way.
The Roma Series features Alabaster Black - living in Italy under the alias Bianca Nerini. She has left the employ of Rendition - a shadow agency that recruited her years ago to uncover certain truths about white-collar criminals they targeted - and punished in their own way.
In Roma Underground - Bianca meets Dante, a investigator whose hobby is exploring and mapping the subterranean tunnels under Rome with a band of amateur archeologists. They partner with Dante's colleagues - Gennaro, his boss; Alessandro, his co-worker; Farrugia, cop and friend to Gennaro; and Silvio, the office secretary with many talents and interesting English; in delving into the mystery of Italian artifacts disappearing and the ring of thieves behind it.
The second in the series, Wasp's Nest sees Bianca lured back to the States - to Boston - where she is tasked with investigating Cyril Sargent - a charismatic entrepreneur who is about to disrupt the world of Big Pharma and Cancer Research. While working on finding the truth, Bianca's friends turn up in Boston to let her know an international assassin - with a tie to Gennaro and Farrugia's past - has been sent to eliminate her.
The third book in the series, Threading the Needle, calls up memories from the past - from Italy's "Years of Lead" when terrorism and bombings were a daily reality. In trying to help young Charlie Brooks with his questions on a shadowy defense contractor, Bianca walks right into an ambush, with Farrugia entangled right beside her. Political assassination, less than truthful journalism, government secrets and corporate alliances surround Bianca and her friends trying to find a solution to this web of intrigue...and stay alive.
Turning to Stone is the fourth installment of the series. When the high profile commissioner who sent Bianca and her team to Naples is assassinated, her investigation focuses on a charismatic entrepreneur who has a plan to manipulate the Euro and American dollar. Against a backdrop of financial speculation, a war between three criminal enterprises, which includes a group of female assassins on motorcycles, Bianca and her friends discover that Naples might just be the most dangerous city in Italy.
In Corporate Citizen, the fifth book in the series, a call for help from an old friend lands Bianca and the crew back in Boston. On a timeout with Dante, due to revelations in the aftermath of the showdown in Naples, Bianca is drawn to a mysterious new ally who understands the traumas of her past, and has some very real trauma of his own. Murder, designer drugs, and a hacker named Magician challenge our team, and Bianca learns that leaving Rendition behind might be much harder than she thinks.
